Sarajevo and Mostar in four days

Spend two nights in Sarajevo and one in Mostar for a compact first visit. This four-day outline works best with an onward departure from the south: returning to Sarajevo on the last day takes time away from Mostar.

Route at a glance

  1. Sarajevo
  2. Mostar

Before you fix the three nights

The outline has one travelling day between the cities and a final morning in Mostar. If you want a full fourth day there followed by another overnight, add a second Mostar night. An early flight from Sarajevo calls for a different final-night arrangement.

Travel between the cities by a dated public connection or an agreed road journey. The Sarajevo–Mostar guide compares coach and private-road choices. For rail, use the ŽFBiH timetable and current notices for the actual date; select a service for your date before fixing the nights.

Day 1 · arrive in Sarajevo and walk the bazaar

If you arrive before dark, begin at Sebilj and follow the Baščaršija streets through Kazandžiluk and Bravadžiluk towards the river and Latin Bridge. Keep the first evening for a meal and finding your bearings.

A late arrival is a reason to move the walk to day two. Spend the first night in Sarajevo.

Day 2 · personal stories and the riverside

Give the War Childhood Museum at Logavina 32 a proper part of the day. Its objects and personal accounts offer a different perspective from the city’s monumental buildings. The normal opening is 11:00–19:00, with last entry at 18:30; holiday exceptions are on the museum’s visitor page. If steps or a lift affect your visit, read its current access notice before making this a fixed part of the day.

Make the riverside walk a separate part of the day, with Sarajevo City Hall and Šeher Ćehaja Bridge as useful landmarks. The walk does not include admission to City Hall. Spend the second night in Sarajevo.

Day 3 · travel south, then meet Mostar on foot

Leave room for the journey and reaching your accommodation before planning visits. If you are settled before dark, walk Kujundžiluk, the Old Bazaar, and cross the Old Bridge. A later arrival makes this the following morning’s walk.

A planned visit in Konjic belongs in a private transport proposal with the stop and waiting agreed. It is an addition to the direct journey, not part of a scheduled coach service. Spend the third night in Mostar.

Day 4 · a house visit or a slower morning

Follow Jusovina towards the Crooked Bridge for another view of the old quarter. For an indoor visit, Muslibegović House at Osmana Đikića 41 has historic domestic interiors, Bosnian handwork and kilims. Contact the house about visiting arrangements before fitting it around a fixed departure.

A morning in Mostar can close a southbound trip comfortably. For a return to Sarajevo, put the departure journey into the day first and keep only the visits that fit. If Mostar deserves longer in your holiday, add that second night.
