Arriving by train
Rail works best when the actual service fits your first night and the rest of the journey. Start with the train you can take, rather than designing an international arrival around a line on the map.

From Croatia: treat Ploče as a dated option
ŽFBH publishes special notices for the Ploče–Sarajevo service. Its October notice covers 9–11 October 2026; that notice does not establish a train on a later date. Look for the applicable notice on the operator’s website before making Ploče your arrival route.
The cross-border train and the domestic Čapljina–Sarajevo service are separate planning questions. A domestic timetable entry does not establish a train across the Croatian border. If no service matches your date, a coach or road arrival may make a simpler start.
Arriving at Sarajevo station
Sarajevo’s main railway station is at Put života 2. The Sarajevo Tourism Board identifies taxi, bus and tram facilities nearby. For the final journey, use the exact accommodation entrance rather than a general “city centre” destination; our tram guide and taxi guide help you compare the options.
Luggage, an evening arrival or boarding assistance can change that choice. If you want an arranged pickup, include the station, train, arrival date and accommodation address in the enquiry. A coach connection needs its own named terminal; a bus facility beside the railway station does not mean every onward service leaves there.
To prepare for a station pickup enquiry, add the train, station and arrival date to a transfer outline.
Tickets and the next leg
ŽFBH’s domestic conditions provide for station-counter and authorised-agency sales. Its website currently reports that online ticket sales are unavailable. For departure from Ploče, the sales arrangement must come from the responsible railway; the BiH domestic conditions do not explain how to buy at a Croatian station.
For travel within Bosnia and Herzegovina, check the railway’s published timetable and ticket conditions for your route, including luggage and any planned stopover. If the journey depends on a northern connection, use ŽRS’s timetable contact for the actual stations and date. Keep a viable intercity alternative until the rail journey is established.
