Plan my trip

Plan access for the whole journey

Plan access from the aircraft to the room, then from the vehicle or stop to each entrance. A lift inside a museum cannot solve steps outside it. Describe what you need at every stage: distance, boarding, the mobility aid, communication and a place to rest.

Sarajevo Airport: describe the assistance you need

Sarajevo Airport asks for assistance notice through the airline or travel agent at least 48 hours before the published departure. Describe whether distance, steps or reaching the aircraft seat is the difficulty. Its WCHR, WCHS and WCHC categories distinguish those needs; the airline can record the request.

The airport identifies a call point or check-in desk as the start of departing-passenger assistance. Its accessibility portal describes lifts, accessible toilets and boarding equipment including an ambulift. Agree the meeting point and report time with the airline. The portal says there is no dedicated quiet waiting room; ask about the waiting arrangement for your sensory needs.

A Sarajevo museum with published access details

The War Childhood Museum, Logavina 32, has two entrance steps. Its visitor page still reported the accessibility lift out of service on 14 October 2026. The exhibition, adults-and-children corner and toilet are described as accessible, with seating throughout. Ask how you can enter during the outage using your equipment; those internal facilities do not resolve the entrance.

Permanent-exhibition stories are available in Bosnian Braille. The museum offers Bosnian sign-language tours for groups of six or more, with at least five days’ notice by phone or email. Give the language, group size and date when enquiring; if you use another sign language, ask whether suitable interpretation is available.

The museum asks visitors needing mobility assistance to call ahead to reserve parking: visit@warchildhood.org or +387 33 53 55 58. Discuss the parking or drop-off together with the entrance route for the visit, particularly during the lift outage.

The vehicle and the accommodation

For a bus or arranged car, explain whether you remain in the wheelchair or transfer to a seat. Give its dimensions and the equipment details affecting boarding and storage. Obtain the actual vehicle arrangement before committing; “spacious” does not answer occupied-wheelchair boarding.

For a room, ask for the route from pavement to bed and bathroom: entrance steps, ramp, lift doorway and cabin dimensions, shower entrance and layout. Request photographs and measurements of the features you need. Start accommodation planning with those details.

Give the final approach its place in the day

The final approach may involve a gradient, uneven surface, crossings or few places to rest. Plan the drop-off, entrance and return together. A closer arrival point or shorter outing may work better than a long walk with an unresolved approach.

For a transport enquiry, give both endpoints, boarding needs and the flight or visit time. Save the agreed drop-off and return with the assistance arrangements. The reply needs to address the vehicle and entrance for your journey.

A tram outing or Trebević visit

For a Sarajevo tram journey, ask about the vehicle and the platform at the stops you intend to use. A low-floor vehicle alone does not settle the kerb, gap or route to the destination. The tram guide helps identify the line and stops; a mapping app can help with orientation but cannot establish physical access.

For the Trebević cable car, ask the operator about boarding, mobility-aid dimensions, the upper-station exit and the surface of the outing you intend to take. Agree the route and return as well as the cabin journey; a forest path beyond the station needs its own access answer.

One note to share with the people helping

Write a short note in English, or a translation you have checked, describing mobility, communication, assistance and equipment needs. Keep it with the airline reply and agreed room or vehicle details. For powered equipment, ask the airline about the battery and handling requirements; bring the usual tools and charging arrangements appropriate to your equipment.

Use the airport-transfer guide to plan an airport pickup, or prepare a transfer request or group-transport request. Discuss boarding, whether the wheelchair stays occupied, dimensions and bags directly with the operator. Record room requirements in a stay outline, then ask the property for entrance, lift and bathroom details. Confirm the actual provision before travelling.

Flights using another airport

For Tuzla, Banja Luka or Mostar, make the assistance request with the airline for that flight and airport. The airport guide helps identify the airport. Give the boarding and communication needs, then agree the meeting point and notice requirement; Sarajevo’s published instructions do not settle another airport’s arrangements.
