Order a taxi and make the fare clear

A taxi is useful for the part of a city day that is awkward on foot: luggage, a steep final approach or a return after dinner. Start with a known dispatcher and a clear pickup point. For a longer journey, settle the route and fare before getting in.

Use the dispatcher for the city you are in

Sarajevo’s tourism board lists Sarajevo Taxi on 1515, Samir & Emir on 1516 and Holland Taxi on 033 431 111. Banja Luka’s municipal list includes Patrol 1533, Banjalučki 1544 and Bell 1550. Tuzla’s board lists Tuzla Taxi 1517, Gradski 1525 and Radio Taxi Non-stop 1501.

Give the entrance or landmark as well as the street address. Passenger numbers and bags help the dispatcher identify a suitable car. Local short codes do not become international numbers by adding +387; if your phone cannot use one, your accommodation may be able to order the ride.

For a city ride, make the fare basis visible

Ask to see the tariff and for the meter to run from the start of the journey. Start, distance, waiting and any listed luggage or night charge can affect the total. Keep the receipt. These are useful questions even when a fare looks modest.

Sarajevo Canton’s published taxi law describes the displayed tariff, meter and receipt. It is a Canton source, rather than a national price list. A tourism-page example starting fare does not establish today’s tariff or an airport total.

An intercity ride needs a whole-journey price

Sarajevo’s published law provides for an agreed fare before a journey ending outside the Canton, with a receipt before departure. Include the actual destination, intermediate visits, waiting and any return when agreeing that price.

For an airport ride, make luggage and payment part of the fare discussion. FCDO warns that Sarajevo airport drivers may propose a fixed price or an extra luggage charge. Airport-transfer planning is useful when you want the meeting point and final doorstep arranged ahead.

Payment and the journey record

Establish card or cash acceptance before leaving. Small KM notes are useful if the car takes cash. Keep the operator, registration, time and route with the receipt or booking message; those details make a later fare query easier.

Raise a disputed charge with the company and use the consumer guide. Avoid a roadside confrontation. If you are threatened, police are on 122.

A suitable vehicle is a specific request

A child seat, wheelchair, mobility aid or several suitcases can change the car you need. Describe the equipment and boarding assistance rather than relying on the word “taxi” to cover them.

For a group, a late arrival or several visits with waiting, compare planned private transport. Agree the whole journey for your party, including the stops where you will need the driver to wait.
