Plan my trip

Plan a Herzegovina wine day

Explore Herzegovina’s wine route from a base that suits your interests. Brotnjo around Čitluk suits a visit centred on vineyards and family cellars. Trebinje lets a town stay and a local wine visit share the holiday.

Choose the area that fits your stay

The Herzegovina Wine Route links Mostar, Čitluk, Ljubuški, Čapljina, Stolac and Trebinje. Start with the area around your base. One substantial winery visit leaves room for lunch, the conversation and the return.

A Mostar base makes the Brotnjo area a focus for a wine day. A Trebinje stay keeps town life close to the cellar outing. If you want both, the wine itinerary gives the change of base its own day.

Čitluk · a producer’s story in Brotnjo

The Herzegovina Wine Route identifies Žilavka and Blatina with the Brotnjo plateau. Around Čitluk, villages such as Paoča and Služanj give the wine day distinct addresses. Locate the host you choose before arranging the journey.

If family winemaking is the subject you want to explore, ask whether the visit includes the producer’s history, a cellar tour or only the tasting. Those are different experiences, and the appointment should leave time for the part that interests you.

Trebinje · a cellar outing with a town evening

A cellar outing near Trebinje can leave the rest of the day for the town. Tvrdoš has a separate monastery-and-wine context west of the centre. Keep the religious visit and any cellar appointment distinct, with appropriate time and arrangements for each.

The Trebinje tourism listings give contacts for producers around the city. Ask which visitor venue will receive you and what the appointment includes; an office address or general directory entry may not identify the tasting location.

Ljubuški · a cellar or a wine-bar comparison

The Ljubuški wine-route page describes both producer visits and places presenting wines from more than one local winery. A cellar visit can focus on a family’s work; a multi-producer tasting can suit an interest in comparison. Ask what will be poured and whether there is a tour before choosing the format.

Use the actual appointment to shape a Ljubuški day. Kravica or Koćuša can be a separate part of it, but a waterfall visit and a tasting each need their own time and transport. The waterfall comparison helps decide whether to keep both or give one the whole outing.

Buna, Blagaj and Popovo polje · keep the producer in view

A wine day around Buna or Blagaj starts with the particular producer, while Popovo polje leads you into a wider southern journey. The landscape or village name is useful for placing the outing, but it does not identify a tasting appointment. Keep the producer’s actual address and visitor offer at the centre of that plan, with a spring, river or village visit given its own time.

Let the wines give the visit a subject

Žilavka is a white variety; Blatina, Vranac and Trnjak are reds presented by the route organisation. A tasting might compare one variety across bottlings or introduce a white and a red. The producer’s current selection is more useful than expecting every local variety at every cellar.

Include the non-drinkers in the visit and meal. The stay can be part of the wine experience, or a town hotel can leave the days open to other interests. Arrange a non-drinking driver or the return transport before the tasting, so that the evening does not depend on finding a ride afterwards.

When choosing a date, ask whether a terrace or vineyard walk is included and whether harvest work changes the visit. In hot weather, plan water, shade and a break between outdoor stops. In winter, fit the outdoor part into the daylight and confirm the venue’s visiting hours before fixing transport. The host can also confirm the tasting language, food and payment arrangements.

The return journey is part of the wine day

Plan the return before the tasting. In My Trip, note the cellar appointment, lunch stop, party size and return address. Add the area and wines you want to explore if you would also like a guide. If someone in your party will drive and will not drink, use the car-rental guide to compare the hire terms.

The Mostar and Trebinje stay guides help you choose where to spend the evening. For a room outside town, compare the riverside and country-stay guides with the cellar’s address and your return journey. Once you have chosen the area, save your dates and room preferences. My Trip keeps these as a plan to review and download; it does not contact providers or book the stay.
