Car hire in Bosnia and Herzegovina

A car can bring a riverside stop or a village stay into your route. Hire it for the days it helps, then choose a vehicle that suits your drivers, bags and route. The details below will help you compare the full offer.

Which car to book

Think about the people, bags and places in your trip. More space is useful when you need it; a smaller car can make city parking easier.

Compact hatchback

City days and tighter parking

Choose a car that suits the access roads and parking at your accommodation.

Check the luggage capacity before choosing the smallest category.

Four adults and large bags may need more room.

Estate or small SUV

More luggage and days between towns

Choose boot space that fits your bags.

Include your final rural address and road approach in the choice.

Check the road conditions and the hire agreement’s permitted use before choosing the vehicle.

Passenger van

A group travelling with luggage or activity equipment

Give the full passenger count and luggage details.

Establish whether you want self-drive hire or a driver.

Check the vehicle’s seating and luggage space, and confirm the hire company’s licence and border-crossing requirements.

Before you compare offers

The car is one part of the offer. These are the details that decide whether it fits your trip.

Licence and permit
Use the rules for your licence country and the hire company’s own acceptance conditions. A single EU/non-EU rule cannot settle every case.
Card and deposit
The hire price and the security hold are separate. Match the required card type and cardholder name to the actual offer.
Insurance
Compare the cover, excess and exclusions. A protection label is less useful than the amount you remain responsible for.
Driver age
Minimum age and licence history vary by supplier and vehicle category; disclose every proposed driver.
Cross-border and one-way
Visiting another country and returning in another town are different permissions and charges.
Winter equipment
The published requirement runs from 1 November to 1 April. For the car you collect, establish the fitted tyres and compatible traction equipment.
Fuel and mileage
Follow the quoted contract, including fuel level, mileage allowance and extra-distance charges.
Collection and return
Agree the address, opening hours and any late-arrival or key-drop arrangement.

From choosing a car to returning it

Plan the hire

Decide when the car earns its place in the trip. A Sarajevo and Mostar visit may need it between bases rather than during every city day.

Choose the category around passengers, bags, parking and the final address. Put every driver’s age and licence country on the request.

Settle the countries, collection and return points, winter equipment and any extras in the quote.

Collect the car

At collection, bring the required original documents and payment card. Walk round the car with the agent; record agreed damage, fuel and mileage with photographs.

Before leaving, locate the fuel label, lights and traction equipment. Keep the hire and assistance contacts with your documents.

Return the car

At return, follow the agreed fuel and key instructions. Photograph the car, record the return time and keep the return inspection record and fuel receipt.

Costs and timing

Compare the complete offer: hire, protection, additional drivers, equipment, collection/return charges and any one-way or cross-border fee. Keep enough available card limit for the deposit as well as the rest of the trip.

Minimum age, licence history, accepted cards and the security hold depend on the supplier and vehicle. Obtain those conditions for every proposed driver before paying.

Agree the fuel policy, mileage allowance and any cross-border or one-way charge in the offer. Keep the fuel and mileage record made at collection.

For a late return, get the station’s parking and key instructions in writing. Generic airport opening-hour or fee tables cannot settle your booking.

Fit the car to the places you will visit

A compact car can make city parking easier, though the garage entrance and space still matter. For a rural overnight, navigate to the property’s vehicle entrance or a named car park rather than the town alone. If the route includes wine tasting, arrange a non-drinking driver or transport for everyone taking part.

Settle the details that can stop the journey

Before paying, make sure the offer accepts the card type and cardholder you will bring. Treat border permission as a separate rental condition, even when you hold an insurance document. Young-driver charges, mileage, fuel rules, winter equipment and an out-of-hours return all belong in the written offer; settling them before collection leaves the first driving day for the road, not the rental desk.

Put your plans into a hire request

Use your dates, every proposed driver, and the exact collection and return locations to compare offers on the same basis.
