Plan my trip

Drina National Park

Drina National Park belongs around Srebrenica, Skelani and Lake Perućac. The lake and canyon are the reason for a landscape day; Roman remains at Skelani bring another subject to the stay. Klotjevac’s fortress is a more demanding excursion. A room near the right shore or road approach matters more here than a general address beside the Drina.

Perućac: name the shore and the outing

The reservoir lies in the Drina canyon, across the Srebrenica and Bajina Bašta area. The international boundary runs through the lake. For a visit from Bosnia and Herzegovina, give the park the shore and landing you intend to use.

A boat enquiry needs a launch, route, duration and return point, with any boundary requirements settled for that trip. Ask the park about currently available arrangements before building a day around a departure. A shoreline visit can be worthwhile in its own right when time on the water is not arranged.

The canyon shore can be steep. Keep back from unprotected edges and keep children close, even during a short photo stop. Bring water, sun protection and a warm layer, and leave enough daylight for the agreed return.

Skelani: give Roman history its own visit

At Skelani, Roman municipal remains and mosaics give the lake journey a different historical depth. The museum can be the main reason for coming. Contact it about the spaces and interpretation available for your visit.

The park lists an administrative address in Skelani and an office in Srebrenica. Its contact details can help pin down the appropriate meeting point. When arranging a ride, use the museum or agreed park address as the destination.

Klotjevac and the Osat building tradition

Klotjevac’s old fortress adds a different landscape and history. The park describes a difficult approach through the terrain; keep it as a chosen excursion. A local guide can help establish the full route and return for your party.

Osat’s travelling builders are part of the region’s cultural story, working with wood, stone and brick. Look for that history in the places you visit, while respecting private homes. An arranged house or workshop visit needs its own invitation; ordinary village access is not an invitation indoors.

For a rural viewpoint or fortress outing, take an experienced local guide and follow official directions. Landmines and unexploded weapons remain a risk away from main routes. Avoid unmarked ground and abandoned structures.

Potočari deserves a separate purpose and pace

The Srebrenica Memorial Center at Potočari remembers the victims of the 1995 genocide. Give the visit time for attention and reflection. It has its own visitor arrangements and is distinct from a national-park landscape outing.

The Center encourages advance reservations and asks about group size, arrival time, exhibition interests and disability needs. Use its visitor information to prepare the visit. The eastern Bosnia guide helps place remembrance and landscape days in a longer journey.

A lake day or a two-day stay

For one day, centre the visit on Perućac or Skelani. Two days give the lake and heritage separate attention, or leave a day for Potočari. Look at the overnight address beside the landing or museum you need: a room described as near the Drina can be far from that part of the journey.

A trip enquiry is useful with those places and overnight choices already named. Višegrad and the rafting areas near Foča belong to other parts of the wider river journey. Add them with another travel day and base.

Photographs, guiding and a base by the river

For canyon photographs, build the outing around an agreed shore or viewpoint. The light changes through the day, while the cliffs make shade and reflections part of the scene. Prepare an experience request for an introduction to the area, with the actual route and permission settled by the park or responsible leader.

A hire car can suit a stay with several outings. Prepare a car-hire request or a private-transfer request with your planned destinations. If arriving by bus, settle the onward ride from your actual arrival town and the return before fixing a lake departure; the bus guide is a starting point for that first leg.

For a room by the river, use the riverside-stay guide alongside the exact shore and approach. Record your room requirements in a stay outline, checking the village and approach before making plans.
