Plan my trip

Banja Luka

Give Banja Luka one full city day before adding an outing. Kastel and the Vrbas lead into the centre; Gospodska Street, religious buildings and the contemporary-art museum give that walk substance. With another day, choose Krupa’s waterfalls and mills or more time in the city.

Kastel, then the centre streets

Start at Kastel on the Vrbas, where the fortress and river give the day a clear beginning. Continue through Gospodska Street, officially Veselina Masleše, towards Banski dvor and the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour. Petar Kočić Park provides a pause within the centre.

Ferhadija Mosque adds another part of the city’s religious history. Decide where it fits before continuing north through the centre. For an interior visit, use the mosque or church’s visitor arrangements and respect prayer times. An exterior stop fits more readily into the walk.

The regional tourism organisation suggests a walk from Kastel through Gospodska towards the National Theatre. Use that as the shape of the day, with room for the buildings, art or café that holds your attention.

An art museum with a Banja Luka story

The Museum of Contemporary Art of Republika Srpska occupies the former Austro-Hungarian railway station. Artworks donated in solidarity after the city’s 1969 earthquake helped establish its original collection. That connection gives a visit a local story alongside the exhibition.

The museum explains that its holdings are presented through thematic exhibitions. Check which exhibition will be showing during your visit. The main museum visitor information gives Trg srpskih junaka 2, daily hours of 10:00–22:00 and free admission.

The institution also lists Srpska ulica 10–12 with different hours. Use the venue for the exhibition you want, especially when arranging a group visit. The main museum asks for advance notice of groups and reports access for disabled visitors; contact it about the entrance and facilities your party needs.

Krupa earns a separate day

Krupa na Vrbasu is about 25 km south of Banja Luka on the M16. Go for the waterfalls, mills and time beside the Krupa river. They give the second day a different setting from the city streets.

The tourism listing also identifies St Elijah’s Monastery and local walking trails. Add one when it is part of your interest, with the actual route and visitor access settled for that outing. Plan the route and time for each site you choose.

For a group-transport enquiry, name Krupa, the stops you want and the return to Banja Luka. A rafting day has a different meeting point, river section and operator arrangement; it should have its own place in the plan.

One day or two from a useful base

With one day, keep Kastel, the centre streets and one main cultural visit. With two, choose Krupa or a fuller city day. Kozara is another separate day for forest and memorial interests.

A central stay serves repeated city evenings; a station-area room may suit a particular coach journey. Drivers can settle the parking location and Sunday rules before arriving. The arrival guide covers the approach to the city.

Add the area you prefer and your room or apartment requirements to a stay outline.
