Five towns for a slower trip

Spend an evening beside the river in Trebinje, explore Jajce’s history around its town waterfall, or stay in Konjic for a day on the Neretva. Stolac’s stećci and Višegrad’s bridge and literary connections offer two more reasons to pause between the larger cities.

A stop or an overnight?

For a short stop, choose the visit that brought you here and leave time for a meal. Stay overnight if you want an unhurried evening or a second outing the next day. Use the stay guide to weigh the convenience of a town address against a room outside it.

Plan the following morning before choosing where to sleep. A direct journey between towns is different from a day visiting outlying sights. In My Trip, note where you would like to spend the evening and the outing you most want to keep. You can review and download those notes; they are not sent to a provider.

The five choices

Trebinje: a river evening and town life

The Museum of Herzegovina and the old town give a day its cultural focus. A Trebišnjica walk towards Perović, also called Arslanagić Bridge, changes the setting; Platani offers plane-tree shade in the centre. Another day can belong to Tvrdoš or a wine visit, giving a reason to stay beyond the town evening.

Jajce: the town waterfall and a chosen history visit

The central waterfall makes Jajce a distinctive stop. For medieval history, the fortress and Catacombs are different visits from the AVNOJ museum’s account of the 1943 session and its documents. The Pliva lakes and Mlinčići watermills take you outside the centre; the local agency places the lakes about 5 km from town.

Konjic: the Neretva and its stone bridge

The old bridge and Neretva setting are the core of a town stop. Rafting or Boračko Lake gives a longer visit a different day, with its own departure or access point. An overnight makes sense when that further outing is the reason to remain in the Konjic area.

Stolac: Bregava streets and carved stones

The Bregava and the setting below Vidoški grad give the town its shape. Radimlja adds stećak tombstones as a subject in their own right. Boljuni is another burial ground for a longer stone-heritage day, with its own journey; the stećak route explains how those interests can fit together.

Višegrad: the bridge, literature and the Drina

The Mehmed Paša Sokolović Bridge gives the stop its main subject. The Višegrad tourism board identifies the Ivo Andrić memorial classroom and says the neighbouring Dom kulture manages it; approach the centre for visiting arrangements. A longer stay can bring in the town gallery or a river outing, each with its own admission or departure.
